Hi All,
The new Bergen County Martin Luther King Monument was erected and dedicated
during the past year. This imposing seven foot statue commemorates the
legacy of Dr. King and is designed to inspire the continuing quest for
peace, justice and equality. The monument is located on the Hackensack
River Pathway, an easement owned by Bergen County, as it crosses the
Fairleigh Dickenson University campus. The statue sits in the center of a
Plaza, erected for it, surrounded by paving stones inscribed with the names
of the many supporters who made the monument possible. (See the pavers with
your name or of those you know.) Standing in the Plaza and viewing the
Monument is a stirring and affecting experience. The story of the campaign
to make this possible will be related by a member of the Bergen County
Monument Committee.
*The visit to the Monument will be Saturday, May 21. we will meet at
SESCIL, 228 Grand Ave., at 10:30 AM, and drive together to the Monument
location in Hackensack. *(The visit may be followed by a lunch in the
Hackensack area by those who wish.)
This visit is sponsored by the Unitarian Universalist Congregation of
Palisades and is a 'Service Auction event'. If you did not bid on this
event previously, you are welcome to join the trip. There is room for more.*
Please rsvp to Al Stawsky* (alynways at gmail.com or 201-837-9075).
See you Saturday,
Al
