This year the Annual Martin Luther King Birthday Celebration will again
honor Reverend Lee Reid the founding and long time beloved first minister
of our Congregation. The 2021 Lee Reid Award will be presented to the
Coalition of 100 Black Women (Bergen-Passaic Chapter).
Lee was an active member of the MLK Birthday Committee representing UUCP.
She, and her husband Wally, moved to the Englewood-Teaneck area for the
express purpose of founding an "intentionally diverse" interracial UU
congregation. She was among the first UU ministers to do so during the
1980's.
The MLK Birthday Committee is sponsored and supported by dozens of
community grassroots as well as political organizations, churches and
synagogues in Bergen County including both UUCP and the Central Unitarian
Church in Paramus.
Also, during the event the memory of a past UUCP member and leader, May
Boyd Stawsky, will be honored with the presentation of a
scholarship award to a young student in her name.
Although presented virtually this year this widely supported community
event will, as before, include a main social justice speaker, musical and
cultural selections and presentation of awards and student scholarships.
The 2021 MLK Birthday Celebration will premier *January 18 at 7:00pm*.
Links to view the event will be made available prior to that date to be
used then and thereafter.
